Why YOU Should READ More Reflection

Why I took this approach:
For those who come across this blog and do not know who I am, hi my name is Christopher. I am a high school student attending U of D Jesuit and have been assigned to do a project. My task is to advertise a reason why young men (students) should read more and how reading improves their reading skills. When I heard this I decided to take the option of designing a poster. Not just one poster but 3 that would be hung around the school for students to see. I chose this because I felt like it was the best way to reach the student body and exhibit my creativity into why I think reading is a huge benefit to young men. My campaign is "Why YOU Should READ More!"

My Project!:
 1. On the first poster I will explain the format that the posters follow. On each poster there are 5 facts on why reading is beneficial to a student. Not only does every poster have this but each poster has a quote from a teacher or member of the faculty at U of D Jesuit on why they personally think reading is important in the world today. The design for this poster is different in fact. Displayed at the bottom of the poster are books that the teachers have chosen to be on this poster. They are the teachers favorite novel! Some of the books have a dual meaning, they are their favorite novels and novels that they think would be interesting to the student body. In this particular poster the quote is from Mr. Davidson saying,"Book are windows into the lives of others."
 2. The second poster follows the same format as the first except does not have the favorite novels of some teachers. I picked some of these facts so they would better relate to students at U of D Jesuit. This poster includes reading is good for your brain, reduces stress, and makes you a better writer. All three of these facts show students how affective reading is when in high school and for later on in life. Instead of displaying pictures of books that teachers picked this poster takes a more simple route.
3. My third and final poster follows similar images of my second campaign poster. It provides facts on why reading is beneficial to a young man. Some facts on this poster are displayed here such as, reading makes you a better speaker and improves your memory! Who wouldn't want these benefits? Instead of a direct quote like the other two teachers, this teacher decided to use a quote from a poet, Samuel Coleridge. It says, "You become a man when you read." As I stated earlier, this poster simply is composed of different images of books such as in a library or the bible. These pictures are supposed to capture the students eye and give them an idea of what the poster is about, books.

Diving Deeper:
My posters look this way so the students will be interested in them. They are colorful with big pictures and quotes to capture the attention of anyone walking in the U of D Jesuit hallways. The capitalization and different color change is not random, its for a reason. YOU and READ stand out so the student can read those two words and know what the poster is about. I also hope that this would captivate the person who sees the poster and make them want to read the rest of it. I wanted the content for each poster to follow the same format. If a student sees one poster on the wall he will know the context of the other set of posters even though it has different images. I chose to do 5 facts on why reading is beneficial because the facts are quick to read and very encouraging to students. Most of the facts that are on the poster relate to students and why reading will benefit them. Students dont have time to read a whole paragraph in the middle of the hallway, with my poster design they can quickly stop, pertain all of the facts, and a quote from a teacher at U of D Jesuit. Every poster also offers one quote from a teacher or faculty member!

Placement:
My posters are placed throughout the whole school! A total of 12 posters were put up, I wanted everybody in the student body to have the possibility of seeing my posters as much as possible. I attempted to pinpoint the locations where I think the students will see the posters the most and the places where I look at for posters. One poster is placed in the commons. The commons is a hopping spot for students to hangout, talk, or do homework. Another poster is right next to the first floor drinking fountain, students can look up after a drink and see why they should read more! A third poster was placed in the first floor lounge, another hangout place for students. The fourth poster was hung up in the new wing so when students enter the new wing they are able to see the poster, stop, and read it. A fifth poster was hung up going down the stairs from the second floor. Right above the drinking fountain is another poster on the third floor. Staying on the third floor is another poster going down the stairs. An eighth poster is found on the second floor lounge wall. The ninth poster can be seen from walking down the science wing stairs from the second to first floor. The tenth and eleventh poster are on the main floor, one by the science wing stairs and the other in front of the main stair case going to the cafeteria. The final poster is set in the cafeteria where every student is at least once every day so it is a great spot to be seen and read.

Decisions:
The choices I had to make during this project were what to put on the posters (design), where I should place the posters, how many posters I should make, how I would manage my time, and if this would be the best option to reach the student body. I think my decision went really well. I believe I made the perfect amount of posters and placed them at spots where the students would see them the most. I also managed my time very well. I created my posters early, had them printed, and got them signed by Mr. Chandler all so I could have time to put them up by the deadline. I also had a very good idea on where I wanted the posters to be put up before getting started.

Reflection:
I think this project went really good! I am very happy with the end product and proud of the "campaign" that I did. I did not face that many challenges but the biggest thing I am proud about is my time management. I stayed on time of my work and created 3 posters that I really believe will encourage the student body to read more. I think my designs are great and follow a common pattern that the students can easily follow and interpret. I think it has definitely served the purpose of the project. The purpose is to target U of D students and attempt to encourage them to read more. I definitely accomplished this task. I created posters that present students with why they should read more and why reading is beneficial to them. I also gave them quotes from teachers and 5 favorite novels from 5 teachers. If any of these books look interesting to students they can read them and possibly get into reading more! I think my message will get across to the student body easily. My posters are simple to read, have an easy meaning to understand, and have a cool design. I think it will be effective for a long time. When students read and see my posters they can be reminded of the benefits that reading brings to them and maybe one day they will begin to read and love it. Overall I think my poster campaign is a great way to reach the student body and show more people on why reading is so effective.
