Why should students read more?

To reach the student body of U of D Jesuit to encourage reading I have decided to do a poster campaign. I have chosen this for myself for multiple reasons. Projects are regularly assigned at U of D throughout many different classes,. Having said this, when a poster has been an option, I have taken that. I like to think I am a creative person and I believe a poster is the best way I can express my feelings on why students should read more.  This is a great way to reach the students of U of D because they walk these halls everyday. On the walls around the school posters are hung and students stop to read about a new meeting occurring, football game, or an upcoming spirit day. Similar to these, my posters will captivate the eyes of the students and explain why reading is beneficial and why they should read more.

I plan on my posters to all have the same theme. Each poster will have a title of, "Why YOU should read more!" This phrase will be on top of every poster that is made so that the students know what the poster is about. My posters will not all be the same. They will follow the same format but will not all have the same context, it will be a series. The only thing that will stay the same for each poster is the title, as I stated earlier. Each poster will include 5 different facts on why reading is beneficial to do and also to educate the students on the wide variety of advantages you can achieve through reading. I also plan on having one quote from a different teacher on each poster explaining why they think reading is beneficial and its impact on students in the future. My posters not only will have text but also images to captivate the students eye. The image on one poster will be clip art of books transparent in the background of the text. The other will include covers of novels that a couple teachers think the student body should read. The 3rd and final poster will have images similar to the first but not just displayed in the background of the text. 3 posters will be made and 4 of each poster will be printed out, totaling up to 12 posters around the school. They will be posted throughout the school walls. Some posters being displayed in the cafeteria, commons, entrance to new wing, and at least one on each floor maybe two. I also plan on putting a poster going down the main stairs to the cafeteria. I think these are the best places to capture the students attention and hopefully get them interacted with the poster. I think they will be split up on when they will be posted. The 1st set of posters one day, the 2nd another day, etc. Hopefully these posters will encourage students to read more.

  2. Hey Chris, I like your idea, and this project is approved. You should think about what makes an eye-catching poster and whether or not all of your proposed text will still be appealing and easy to read in the hallway. Are you expecting students to stop and read the poster, or is it possible to include your planned elements while still being easily understood by those passing in the hall.

  4. I like the YOU should read more part of the poster. It grabs the readers attention and gives me a reason to read the poster. How many posters will you make?
